Unrestored but very well-kept: three owners from new with a lot of work done
A historic car for Australia, the Ford XK Falcon – which debuted in September 1960 – was the first locally produced Ford product, and kicked off a beloved nameplate that remained until that fateful day on October 7, 2016.
The XK’s brochure proclaimed: “The Falcon is Australian with a world of difference. It is built entirely in Australia, for Australian conditions”, though it could definitely be argued that the second sentence wasn’t entirely true.
The XK stumbled out of the gates, with various horror stories of unreliability and other troublesome mishaps… like total ball joint failure.
Running changes were made, and quality did improve. The size was right too, Ford found. Parked next to an FB Holden, the car sat so much lower it looked almost a decade newer.
This final-year 1962 XK Falcon presents unrestored, but extremely well-cared for.
The current owner is the third from new, and cites a “long list of work completed within the last 1000 miles”.
The listing indicates that the odometer currently shows 78,000 miles, and that the car is fitted with the 144ci Six and three-speed manual.
The XK is described as a “reliable clean cruiser”, and certainly looks the part with its striking white duco with blue roof and interior.
It’s even got a trophy for “Best XK-XP” at Classic Ford Club of the NT’s All Ford Day 2019!
The car is based in the Northern Territory, and is listed for $22,000.
