Trans-Pacific Chrysler was a solid seller
It may have only been assembled here for just over a year, but the Chrysler Valiant SV1 was a solid enough seller in its day, managing a little over 10,000 units.
American-designed and put together here, the SV1 lost the trademark spare-wheel donut that was on the bootlid of its predecessors, but nevertheless was starting to look a little dated by the time the last one was screwed together in 1963.
It’s successor, the AP5, had cleaner lines more in keeping with the then current trends.
Nevertheless the finned Valiants have maintained a following over the years.
The ‘Slant Six’ powerplant displaced a hefty 3.7lt and was matched to three-speed trannies – either manual or push-button auto. The latter was a Chrysler trademark and was still regarded as an exotic feature in the local market when this car was sold.
This example claims some resto work over the years, though the seller mentions some rust issues.
Located in Vic, it’s on the market at $28,000.
