Fantastic finned Aussie classic!
The Holden FB arrived shortly before Ford’s breakout XK Falcon – and reflected the height of 60s optimism.
Design wise, the rear end was a further evolution of the FC’s fins framing the rear guards.
Under the new skin, the FB was heavier than preceding FC, and was 140mm longer; it subsequently gained heavier spring rates up front, widened rear leaf springs and upgraded brakes.
The FB was a significant car for Holden, who invested incredible amounts of funds into its three year development.
Body styles and models included the Standard and Special sedans and station wagons, as well as a ute and panel van.
All cars were fitted from factory with a 132 inline-six capable of 56kW when new, mated to either a three-speed manual or optional automatic.
This 1960 FB Special sedan however sports a larger-displacement 202-six with the three-speed auto. Atop the engine, sits 12 port Commodore Yella Terra heads, new cam; and underneath sits HR Holden front disc brakes and HR diff, rounded off by 14″ dragway wheels.
The car has reportedly been completely restored with new paint and upholstery.
Overall the car presents incredibly well, and would make an awesome cruiser for those sunny days.
The car is listed for $35,000 and is based in Queensland.
