From humble transport to cult icon, the Kombi has had a wild old ride across the decades.
In a story on the series we noted: “In 1949 the new Volkswagen company launched the VW Type 2 Transporter, a vehicle that revolutionised the motoring world and was quickly copied by many other manufacturers around the globe. VWs were launched in Australia five years later, in 1954, with Type 1 Beetles and Type 2 Transporters being sold. A total of 334 Type 2 Transporters (of all body types and varieties) were sold in Australia in 1954.”
This 1959 example has undergone a restoration and claims a cameo role in the film Dangerous Animals.
It’s powered by a 1500 flat four with four-speed manual transmission.
Located in on the Gold Coast in Queensland, it’s on the market for $89,900.
