Auction

1959 BMW 507 SERIES II

Development of the 507 was inspired by USA importer Max Hoffman’s suggestion that BMW design a sports car for North America. The 507 has an aluminium body styled by Albrecht von Goertz. Just 250 were made. This one has received two refurbishments, one in the 1980s and another in 2024 including a repaint in blue and a retrim of the interior in tan leather. Power is provided by an aluminium 3168cc V8 with twin Zenith carbys. It also has finned drum brakes, 16-inch painted steel wheels, a four-speed manual ’box and a tan convertible top. It sold with records and photos of the resto.

1987 HOLDEN VL CALAIS

The VL Commodore heralded big changes inside and out. The biggest being the Nissan six powerplant replacing the ageing Holden 202-six that couldn’t drink unleaded fuel. The top dog Calais got eyebrow headlight shields and smart looking alloy wheels. This one-family owned example is immaculate and shows 152,299km on the odo and has the Nissan six bolted to an auto. It is finished in Wild Mulberry with light grey trim and is a very clean original car, with its unused spare wheel and radio cassette. A rare find.

This Panther black example was a UK-delivered model, imported to Australia in the late 1980s, and has been with the seller and third owner for 15 years. The odo shows 104,930 miles.

1962 CHRYSLER VARIANT R SERIES

Chrysler took Aussie buyers by surprise when it debuted the futuristic looking R-Series in the early ’60s. It made the General’s and Henry’s offerings look very stodgy. Sporting the legendary slant-six motor with a manual gearbox, the R Series was no slouch. This one shows 45,103 miles and is white with a blue interior. It also appears to be in excellent condition and for a run-of-the-mill model, the R-Series is a rare beast with just 1008 built before moving to the S Series.

Following long-term ownership the selling dealer acquired the car in 2024, and the fluids (the car’s) were changed.
