1958 Holden FC – Phil’s Picks

Here is a great example of Australia’s own car, and it could be yours.
Holden

Sold for $48,000, this award winning Holden FC takes me back to my youth and the days our roads were filled with them, though not all were two-tone like this gem.

This beaut looking example has only travelled 60,789 miles from new and has been meticulously cared for since the day it rolled out of a Holden dealership. In fact, it looks like it rolled out of it yesterday!

It has always been garaged and when in the shed had a cover over it and I must admit it really is one of the best I’ve seen. Up front is a six-cylinder 2.2-litre engine tied to a three-on-the-tree manual.

Inside, the red vinyl trim and black vinyl floor are like new and the whole cabin looks showroom fresh. Describing the car as plumb is often bandied around too much, but it is warranted in this case. The owner has had a lifelong passion for the FC but has decided to pass the baton to an equally enthusiastic custodian.

.

Fun fact: The FC was exported to Indonesia and a common site on their roads too. You’ll turn heads wherever you cruise to and it’ll be a star at car shows too.

1964 CORVETTE C2 – $129,950

I confess to owning C2 coupes and convertibles and if I see one, I am easily distracted. It’s finished in Daytona Blue with dark-blue trim and has NCRS credentials. Imported in 2012, the seller acquired it in 2015 and entered it in the 2016 International Mark of Excellence Judging meet in Brisbane organised by NCRS Australia. It scored a 90.2 per cent and the Second Flight Award. It was also awarded the Ladies Choice Award. It was built March 12, 1964 at the St Louis factory with a 327ci V8 built in Michigan’s Flint factory that’s still in the car today, and it features a manual gearbox. The paint and trim codes also match.

1970 MGB – $44,990

Another confession dear reader. I have owned an MGB and love its simplicity and how easy it was to work on. What’s more, I’d happily park another one in my shed and they’re finally appreciating in value. This one has had the hard work done and is ready to be enjoyed. It has a few modern touches that don’t distract from its appeal and the Minilites are period correct, though wire wheels still look great on a B in my opinion. It has a soft top, tonneau cover and a three-year warranty. On a sunny day in any season, an open road in an MGB with the roof off is what motoring dreams are made of.

2012 BENTLEY CONTINENTAL GT SERIES 2 – $145,000

These big, brash Bentley coupes do it for me. Dubbed ‘the flying loungeroom’ its 6.5-litre V12 sounds like thunder when you open the taps and it’s insanely sumptuous inside. This one only has 36,800km on the clock. It sports magnetic ride, adjustable-height suspension and is all-wheel drive. It has always been garaged, described being in as-new condition, comes with a car cover and it has hardly been used, which is a shame as they are a fabulous car to punt. Believe me.

1962 PORSCHE 356B T6 – $115,000

What’s not to love about Dr Ferry’s first Porsche? However, soaring prices and resto costs are making them unobtainable for many. But here’s a rare opportunity to secure a 356B coupe that has undergone a bare-metal-body resto. With shed space, time and patience it looks like an enjoyable reassembly project, minus the grime of a resto. What better way of bonding with a car than knowing every nut and bolt. It comes with wheels, glass ,trim, suspension, brakes, engine and gearbox, a new wiring harness, reco gauges and big ledger file. Imagine how you’ll feel when you take it on its first outing!!
