Big stylish cruiser
While fifties Chevrolet sedans and coupes are a familiar sight at any decent local American car show, a Delivery panel van like this is a rare beast.
It’s essentially a simplified version of the Nomad wagon and was originally pitched at the commercial market, which was relatively tiny compared to the sedan sector.
Of course it had competitors, such as the Ford Courier, and we tracked down a 1952 version of that car some years ago. Here’s the feature.
The base engine/transmission package was a 235ci (3.9lt) straight six with a three-speed manual transmission. Of course you could up-spec with a four-speed manual or two-speed Powerglide, while the six could be swapped for a 265ci (4.4lt) Turbofire V8.
This example is a restomod with a 350 (5.7lt) V8 and Turbo 700 four-speed auto transmission.
The original exterior lines have been kept, as has the layout of the dash, while there are a number of modern updates inside.
It’s running disc brakes up front, power steering and has air-conditioning. Located in NSW, it’s on the market at $50,000.
