1953 Ford Crestline convertible – today’s tempter

Customised V8

When introduced in 1952, the Crestline was the top of the range for Ford when it came to trim levels, sitting above the Customline and base model Mainline. Three styles were offered: The two-door hardtop Victoria, two-door convertible Sunliner and the Country Squire four-door wagon.

Power came from a 3.9lt flathead V8 and the range underwent only minor changes for 1953.

Two more body variants were added for 1954, along with the option of a 3.6lt straight six powerplant or 3.9lt OHV V8.

The range was then replaced with the Fairlane series.

This 1953 convertible has undergone some subtle body customisation and is now running a 302 (5.0lt) Windsor with a three-speed C4 auto, plus disc brakes on the front.

Located in Williamstown, South Australia, it’s on the market for $80,000.
