Tom and Des Ham's 1938 Buick 840 Special
1938 Buick 840 Special
We caught up with Tom and Des Ham at this year’s David Hack Classic event. Here’s their story on how they came about owning their lovely US classic…
“It started life as a left-hand drive US import brought into Australia by a family in Melbourne who drove it for a while and then converted it to right-hand drive.
We bought it from a good friend of the family after he got too old to look after it and went into a nursing home. We haven’t done much to it, the paint was a bit rough so I decided to block it back and give it a respray, but I got in there and I ended up taking it back to bare metal. It’s a great car with funny things like the opera seats in the back which fold down to face each other. We’ve had it for about seven or eight years, we have other Buicks as well and bring a car to this event almost every year.”
