1937 Lagonda LG45 – today’s tempter

1937 Lagonda LG45

For many the name Lagonda has long been associated with Aston Martin. However it was, pre-1947, a stand-along marque.

The quality of its cars was such that it was seen as a seriously rival for the likes of Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

In fact, WO Bentley worked for the company from the mid-1930s and this LG45 series (launched in 1936) was the first to show his influence.

An Autocar review of the time said it was a vastly improved car compared to its immediate predecessor.

In this form the Lagonda runs a 4.5lt straight six with four-speed manual transmission. In its day, it was expected to be capable of 100mph (160km/h).

It has been the subject of a restoration and is with Oldtimer Australia in Brisbane, priced at $299,950.
