1929 Oldsmobile roadster – today’s tempter

Heading for a century

You know you’re walking into a very different era when one of the boasts of the Oldsmobile F29 for 1929 was it had brakes on all the wheels! And yes, of course, they were mechanical drums.

It also claimed a good-sized engine, an inline six displacing 3.3lt and claiming a healthy 55 horses. A distinctly upmarket feature was the three-speed transmission had full synchro.

Several body style were offered and pricing back then started around US$900. At the time, this was somewhere in the mid-range of the market – with the sedans probably driven by a middle-class family that had experienced a little success.

Having a roadster suggested you might be a bit of a rake, probably single, with ambitions.

This example claims to be one 19 made for export and may be the only one in the country. The owner says it comes with a matching trailer and enough parts to consider building another. Located in Vic, it’s on the market for $72,500
