1971 Holden HG Brougham - Reader Ride
We caught up with Michael Denny and his HG Brougham at the recent Picnic at Hanging Rock car show...
Michael Denny's 1971 Holden HG Brougham
I bought it six years ago; it’s a NSW inland car. I had it resprayed but the panel beater said it was the best he’d seen. The floors looked brand new with just 18,000km on it. The only rust was behind the trim in a few places.
I always liked Broughams and you don’t see them too often. This one has he 308 with a Trimatic.
It’s like driving an armchair – they’re good fun. It sounds great with the twin system. It’s not fast but it just cruises and floats along. It’s a pre-Statesman, though it’s really a Kingswood with 300mm added to the back. There are a few for sale and they want big dollars for them.
I wasn’t targeting them, it just turned up. A young bloke had it. We’ve got a few Holdens around, including EK, EJ, HK, Monaros, VR cop car, and another HJ. I’m always on the lookout for something nice.
Michael's wife Jenny was also at Haning Rock with her HZ Sandman ute. You can read Jenny's story here.
