1980 Ford Falcon XD – Today’s Tempter

Well-kept and highly original XD Falcon: Originally a Geelong employee car, one of four in this combo

Ford’s XD Falcon arrived in 1979 and brought with it a bold new look, full of hard edges and flat panels, a stark departure from the preceding line of ‘coke bottle’ cars.

While much of its underpinning mechanicals were caried over from the XC, its dramatic new digs won it a local design award and a peak of 5000 sales per month.

Available in sedan, station wagon, van and utility guises; while available engines comprised of the basic 3.3lt and optional 4.1lt inline-sixes as well as 4.9lt and 5.8lt V8s.

We spotted this one on the classifieds which looks to be a well-preserved example of the breed.

Described as a numbers-correct and low-km example, the XD was reportedly first owned by a Ford Geelong employee which was purchased directly through the factory in August 1980.

An accompanying Ford Verification Letter indicates that this is one of four XD Sedans produced in this specification and colour combo.

The XD is fitted with the basic 3.3lt inline-six backed by a three-speed auto, and is said to drive like new. Finished in mostly original Hermitage Red paint and light grey trim, the XD is said to be rust free with only minor blemishes from age.

Said to be a much-loved car and a regretful sale, the XD is currently fully registered in the ACT and comes with its original keys, books, near new tyres, original four-slot wheels, and a number of rare spares including new-old-stock seat material.

The XD is based in the Australian Capital Territory, and is listed for $22,500.
