Very tidy rust free XE Fairmont: injected 4.1lt, auto
The XE Falcon of 1982-194 is a car of contrast: some lament it as the end of Ford’s classic V8, but it was also the car that tipped GMH off the top rank of the sales chart.
They were vastly improved over the preceding XD too: with particular regards to suspension tuning and NVH, new four-link coil sprung suspension for the sedans and value-filled packaging throughout the range.
Ford emphasised the scope and durability of the 4.1lt inline-six with tests and exhibition, with one particular 24 hour endurance trial clocking an average speed of 176km/h.
The XE Falcon offered buyers the choice between a 3.3lt and 4.1lt inline-six with the option of fuel injection on the latter and larger. Most came with three or four-speed manuals or a three-speed auto, though the XE was also the first Falcon to offer five-speed manual, though was only available on the smaller 3.3lt six.
This XE Fairmont on sale here is specified with the numbers-correct and original injected 4.1lt six coupled to a three-speed automatic.
It’s finished in white with light blue interior, both of which present very well and free of noticeable wear and tear.
The car is cornered by Snowflake wheels and is described by the sellers as "very tidy rust free vehicle".
It’s got 226,617kms on the clock and looks like a great old trooper to have in the shed.
The XE Fairmont is based in New South Wales, and is listed for $22,990.
