Handsome classic German saloon: One owner, full history, original & low-Ks

BMW’s second-generation 5-Series was luxurious executive saloon with seating for five, wrapped up in a deft and balanced chassis that won just as many fans for its dynamics than it did with its ‘sharknose’ styling, technology and performance.

The E28 underwent production in 1981 and ceased in 1988, powered by a slew of BMW’s lauded inline-sixes ranging from 2.0lt to 3.5lt displacements, as well as a 1.8lt four-pot and a 2.4lt diesel option.

Upon release, the 528i was the highest specification available, until the 535i released in 1984 (and a 533i for Japanese and North American markets).

The fuel-injected 2.8lt inline-six yielded 135kW and 240Nm, coupled with either four-speed autos or four/five-speed manuals sending power to the rear wheels.

While the range-topping M5 is already a bonafide classic – and the very reason for the four-door performance car industry today; they were never officially sold in Australia and only a handful exist Down Under. Thus, we would expect these high-spec standard models to be smart buying in the face of the ever-appreciating halo models.

This 1983 BMW E28 528i 5-Series looks like an affordable entry point into a very useable classic German saloon. It’s reportedly a one-owner car with full history and just 105,215kms on the odometer.

It looks to be incredibly tidy and appears to be original, presenting with an automatic transmission and very well-kept leather interior.

You could feasibly drive this every day!
