Ford Falcon XD V8 - today's tempter
Nicely kept sedan has potential
Ford played a smart game when it released the XD back in 1979.
Though it was launched a touch behind the then new Commodore, it was a larger car that, in 3.3lt 4-speed form, could match or slightly better the Holden in fuel economy.
That was significant, given there was a global scare on oil shortages at the time.
The big thing for the XD was the shape, which may look a little boxy now, but at the time was applauded for being a clean and attractive piece of design.
Underneath there was a lot of the previous XC in the mechanicals.
This example appears to be an up-spec GL, with 302ci (4.9lt) V8 and C4 auto transmission, plus a limited slip diff.
It's claiming to have just 89,000 and, if the condition backs that up, it could be a bit of a find.
Located in NSW and said to be running original plates, it's priced at $20,000 with a RWC.
