Goss hardtop plus unused HSVs up for grabs

Lloyds in Queensland has two special auctions coming up on December 9 and 16. One features 70s muscle, while the second has an extraordinary line-up of unused late-model hero Holdens.

The first is headlined by what it says could be the best Group C XB hardtop in the world. Built under the direction of racing legend John Goss, this prototype XB carries what is said to be a wish-list of everything Goss wanted for 1975-76 after his Bathurst win in 1974.

Taking up an abandoned homologation program initiated by Ford and Goss back in 1975 to create a race car based on the XB Goss Special, former senior Goss mechanics Grant O’Neil, John Callis and engineer Peter Goss were involved with the build.

The result is stunning, laying claim to all the thunder of a 70s Group C car combined with period-correct fittings and an attention to detail right up there with a modern competition car.

Rounding out the Dec 9 event is an L34 Torana SL/R5000. Coming from an exhaustive rotisserie restoration, this Torana was ordered new with the optional Bathurst camshaft and bigger carburettor as part of the optional performance package.

The two stars head a list that includes several classics, including what is said to be an immaculate HX Monaro LE.

The following week sees an exceptional line-up on offer – essentially a collection of Holden and HSV models with delivery miles only on the odo.

They include a W1, W427, a 40th anniversary GTS, a 25th anniversary GTS, a 25th anniversary R8, and a VF SS Black Edition.

There is also the chance to get your hands on a set of VF Sandman revivals – the ute and the wagon.
