Big result for Monaro at Lloyds

GTS 350 comprehensively breaks $300k barrier

This beautifully presented GTS 350 pulled big numbers.

Lloyds biggest classic car auction of its monthly series today pulled solid bidding.

The headline act was the final lot, a 1970 Holden Monaro GTS 350 auto, matching numbers, low miles and exceptionally well-presented after a comprehensive restoration. Competition was very tough among bidders, starting online at over $180,000 and finishing up at $310,000 after a protracted battle.

A rare XW GT-HO auto, one of just a few made, pulled plenty of interest and settled at $165,000.

At the other end of the Aussie value scale was a tidy-looking VC Commodore six with auto, that went for $6300. Just $100 more scored a 1990 VT Clubsport manual - a lot of car for the money. Also a good value win was a clean 1984 WB Statesman at $16,400.

In the midrange a 1967 HR panelvan pulled strong bidding, finishing at $22,500, just a touch below reserve.

Holden SS Group As are still looking strong, with a 1990 VN attracting $62,000.

The Ferrari Testarossa went for $175,000, good buying when compared to international prices. Another solid buy was lot 30, the 1972 Charger with a 265 at $29,000.

Arguably the most interesting lot was a 1937-39 Maserati tribute, beautifully finished, which fetched $73,500.
