John Bowe and Steven Johnson traded blow for blow in the dry Darwin heat over the weekend, as both ProMaster pilots battled in their new race cars with great success. Dubbed ‘Thunder in the Valley’ for the ENZED Touring Car Masters, round four of the season was full of action and our man JB was in the thick of it.

Saturday’s qualifying saw Bowe take a new TCM Pole record lap of 1m12.3826s ahead of Johnson, but it was Johnson and "Mustang Sally", Bowe’s traditional racer, who took the win in Race 1, ahead of JB on Saturday.

But it was Sunday that delivered even more excitement as the two fought tooth and nail in both races. It was Steve Johnson again who led the field in the Payce Mustang, ahead of Andrew Miedecke in the Lubrimaxx Camaro who spent most of his time fending off the relentless Bowe in the Wilson Secutiry Torana.

Race 3 lap one saw a big incident involving the Bill Pye Camaro which grabbed the kerb at turn three and fired him into the fence, collecting the HQ of Garry Treloar as collateral. Bother cars were wrecked but both drivers were okay. From there it was a constant arm wrestle between Johnson and Bowe, exchanging the lead multiple times. Jim Richards in his Shannons AMC Javelin charged in front of Miedecke and Greg Crick in his Charger late in the race to take home third.

Other standouts include the white knight iSeek Torana of Jason Gomersall took a win in the lower Pro-Am class on Sunday, as well as taking home the Rare Spares Achievement Award.

Miedecke on 557 points currently sits 28 points ahead of Jim Richards in second and Greg Crick in third in the championship, while Bowe hovers in sixth on 438 points. Round 5 of the ENZED Touring Car Masters is at Queensland Raceway, July 31 – August 2nd.
