2022 Market Review - Mazda RX-7 Series 6-8/RX-8/Cosmo

Not long ago, excellent examples of tri-rotor 20B Cosmos coupe cost less than $20,000.

Now, in the space of three years and despite more cars appearing in our market, prices have trebled. Up as well and by around 50 percent since 2019, are locally sold RX7 Series 6 and 7 twin-turbos. These not-quite supercars are still desirable and look cheap when pitted against Japanese versions of the same car.

Series 8 RX-7s built for Japanese-only sale from 1998-2002 come in various forms and most when landed here cost less than $100,000. Then there are rarities like the Spirit R, of which only 1500 were made, and they can bring very high prices.

The RX-8 remains Mazda’s last series-production rotary, with plenty of survivors but that hasn’t stopped prices climbing by 50 percent since 2018.

RX-7 Series 6-7 1992-97 $77,775 (12)

RX-7 Ser. 8/Type R/Bathurst $91,570 (15)

RX-7 Spirit R $163,980 (6)

RX-8 2003-06 $14,150 (27)

RX-8 2007-10 $20,690 (20)

Cosmo 20B $77,400 (5)
