BMW 5/6/7 Series 1980-2006 - 2018 Market Review
BMW 635 CSi

Five Series BMWs were the cars that gave Mercedes-Benz a shake in the local market, but that was 40 years ago and we don’t see many of those E28 Series cars anymore. 528 and 535i sedans from the 1980s are more common yet still not costly.

Move into the 1990s and E39 versions are so cheap it is hard to resist when a low-kilometre 528i appears. Or skip a couple of rungs and spend just $10K on a 4.4-litre 540i.

Moving into the segment occupied by swish Six Series you can go old school and pretend you’re at Bathurst with a 635CSi or jump a generation and into a 645i. Both in good condition currently cost less than $30,000.

535i 1986-88 $5970 [11]

540i 1997-01 $10,280 [28]

635CSi 1980-89 $23,645 [14]

645i Coupe $27,135 [11]

840Ci $30,090 [8]

850i $53,165 [6]
