After a little rest, Mustang prices are on the move again.

After years of sitting stoically below $30,000, the money being achieved by 1964-68 Mustangs is increasing.

Bargains still exist, especially when the market is crowded and an owner is keen to sell.

The first Mustang Fastbacks arrived here in 1965 and always commanded better money than coupes but the gap has recently widened to the point where an excellent Fastback can cost twice the price of a coupe.

Fastbacks with 6.4-litre engines have climbed to exceptional heights and it’s now feasible to pay more than $100,000 for a GT390.

Another one to watch is the limited production ‘California Special’ from 1968. US prices for these range from low $20,000s to over US$50K.

V8 Coupe 1965-68 $35,525 [55]

V8 Conv. 1965-68 $49,500 [28]

Mustang V8 Fastback 1965-66 $61,855 [15]

Fastback 1967-68 $71,375 [4]
